Pioneering Research Work :-

1. Dr. Saxena devised an innovative technique of deflating stuck balloon catheters. The idea consists of endoscopically bursting the balloon. This technique was first described and accepted globally in 1989. It was published in the British Journal of Urology (Vol.65, No.1, January 1992). Since then, it has been quoted as reference and various variations of the same technique have been described in the medical literature.
2. The other major global contribution of Dr. Saxena is in the field of Human Sexual Dysfunction. The advent of oral potency drug (Viagra or sildenafil) revolutionised the treatment of Sexual Dysfunction. The problem with viagra is that it blocks the ‘escape route’ and hence excessive build up can be detrimental to the body.
Dr. Saxena, for the first time in the world, has discovered a salt (2-Nicotinamidethyl nitrate) that acts at the entry mechanism, thus keeping the escape route open. It is therefore a much safer alternative. It can be given in cardiac patients and the dose required is small.
A comprehensive review of literature has shown that this effect of the salt had not been recognised to date. Consequently, a patent application for this salt was filed in the name of Dr. Ajit Saxena in India and in the USA in June 1999.
Patent granted to Dr. Saxena in USA in April 2001.
3. He is currently the President of Delhi Andrology Society (Regd.) – The only society of its kind in India. He is also the founder President of Andrology India.
4. He recently organized First Robotic Uro Surgery Workshop at Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi on 30th April and 1st May 2005.
